Kovalam Paradise of the South

Kovalam means a grove of coconut trees and true to its name the village offers an endless sight of coconut trees. It is also known as the Paradise of the South. Kovalam, the beach town and famous tourist destination well known for its internationally renowed beaches. Kovalam is surrounded with three adjacent crescent beaches which gives the tourist a perfectly blend beach vacation and soak themselves in the waves of Arabian Sea.

Kovalam has three beaches separated by rocky outcroppings in its 17 km coastline, the three together form the famous crescent of the Kovalam beach

  • Lighthouse Beach

The southernmost beach, the Lighthouse Beach is the one most frequented by tourists, Lighthouse Beach got its name due to the old Vizhinjam Lighthouse located on a rocky promontory here. Its intermittent beams at night render the beach with an unearthly charm.

  • Hawah Beach

Eve’s Beach, more commonly known as Hawa Beach, ranks second, in the early day, is a beehive of activities with fishermen setting out for sea. With a high rock promontory and a calm bay of blue waters, this beach paradise creates a unique aquarelle on moonlit nights.

  • Samudra Beach

A large promontory separates this part from the southern side. Samudra Beach doesn’t have tourists thronging there or hectic business. The local fishermen ply their trade on this part.

Kovalam Holidays

  • Light House : – The light house is also known in names like Vizhinjam lighthouse or Vilinjam light house. The lighthouse is an active one and the huge tall structure is open everyday by late afternoons. Painted in red and white bands the tower stands tall in a height of 36m or 118 feet.
  • Vizhinjam Marine Aquarium :- Vizhinjam Marine Aquarium, which was established in 1997, is situated at Vizhinjam, which is an important fishing port in Kerala. This aquarium showcases the rarest species of invertebrates and ornamental fish in the world. Managed by the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI).
  • Vizhinjam Fishing Harbor :- Vizhinjam Beach The area around the beach is dotted with several Ayurvedic treatment centres, where Ayurvedic massages and treatments are available. was originally a commercial centre for the Europeans, Portuguese and the Dutch, who used to trade with the native kings. This beach is situated 4.7 km away from Kovalam, in the coastal town of Vizhinjam. Vizhinjam Beach serves as a major sea port area.
  • Poovar :-  Poovar is a small coastal village in the Trivandrum district of Kerala state, south India. This village is almost at the southern tip of Trivandrum and there is only one last village Pozhiyoor which mark the end of kerala. This village has a beautiful beach which attracts tourists.
